Gehard Demetz is notorious for being really mysterious in the art world, a lot is not known about the man besides the fact that he can take ordinary wood and create extraordinary figures that drops the common man’s jaw. Born in 1972 in Italy, Demetz creates these sculptures of seemingly sad children.

It seems that innocence was interrupted there and now it’s time for justice, for the revenge of the good. The missing wooden parts of the sculptures reveal the aching truth. That life may be at moments superficial and seemingly happy-go -lucky, but nobody can hide from the past, nobody can escape his ghosts. Gerald Demetz’s sculptures leave you defenseless. Addicted to darkness, you keep begging for more.

Concrete washbasin shaped as a fossil from HighTech.

“Ammonites are an extinct species of cephalopods which lived in the sea about 400 million years ago. Their shells are found all over the world and they are very much sought-after by fossil-hunters, their collector’s value depending on size and the state of preservation. The fascinating shape of ammonite fossils – which resembles a rolled up helix – is the basic design element in the new HighTech washbasin. The association of water and fossil design is a clear allusion to the prehistoric inspiration for the Ammonite washbasin.”

Having seen hugely famed fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld be the centre of similar pieces, here is a great figure from Tokidoki. Making an understated approach, something of which Lagerfeld if renowned for makes for an impressive release.

Karl Lagerfeld: ”I am very flattered that I became a tokidoki. I always loved them and I am very happy to be one of them!”

Only 1000 of the 10inch figures are in production and you can get them from Colette for about 129 Euro.
